Foraging Safety

-
Always verify property ownership and get permission
-
Never eat anything you can't identify with 100% certainty
-
Learn to distinguish edible species from toxic look-alikes
-
Understand sustainable harvesting practices (take only what you need, leave plenty for wildlife)
-
Use the 1/3 Rule: harvest 1/3 of the plant and leave the rest for regeneration. Do not forage plants that are struggling from dehydration or other issues.
-
Be aware of potential contamination from roads, pollution, or chemical treatments
and Ticks or Poison Oak/Ivy
